Airtable sits between a spreadsheet and a database — and its AI layer now lets non-developers build actual tools on top of their data. I mocked up a lightweight CRM to test it.
What it does well

Limitations
- Pricing climbs fast: Once you need automations, more records, or advanced roles, costs scale up.
- Not a true database: Complex relational logic is easier in a real DB or codebase.
- AI accuracy: Treat generated fields as drafts to verify, not ground truth.

A free tier is fine for personal bases; paid starts around $20–24/seat/month (billed annually), with AI features on higher tiers. Team plans add the real value.
